Hensley "Bam-Bam" Meulens, who played seven seasons in the major leagues, was the first MLB player from Curaçao. A highly touted prospect in the late 1980s, he never lived up to his potential in the major leagues, although he had a long career in the minors, the majors, and in Japan.

His minor league career stretched from 1986 to 1998. He showed decent power, hitting over 20 home runs several times in the minors. He led the International League in homers in 1992 while playing for the Columbus Clippers. In 1994, he went to Japan for three years, hitting in the .240's each year with 23-29 home runs.

In 1997 and 1998, he was back in the USA, playing in the organizations of the Montreal Expos, the Arizona Diamondbacks, and briefly (2 games) with the organization of the Chicago White Sox.

He played in Korea in 1999 as well as in Mexico beginning in 1999.

In the 2001 Baseball World Cup, Meulens hit .258/.410/.484 with 7 runs and two homers as the starting left fielder for the Dutch national team. In the 2002 Intercontinental Cup, Hensley hit .294/.429/.471 as the Dutch left fielder.

Meulens played for The Netherlands at the 2000 Sydney Olympics and served as an assistant coach for the 2004 Dutch Olympic baseball team. He also has coached for the Netherlands in the 2003 Baseball World Cup and 2009 World Baseball Classic.

Meulens was a coach for the Bluefield Orioles in 2003-2004. From 2005 to 2008, he was the hitting coach of the Indianapolis Indians. In 2009 Meulens moves to the Fresno Grizzlies
