Lowry's agent, Damon Lapa, said he was informed of that by the Giants today and added in an e-mail, "Noah is completely healthy throwing three days a week on his normal offseason program without any restrictions." In theory, the Giants could re-sign him. This is not surprising as the Giants were on the line for $6.25 million with their option for 2010. It's a shame that he endured all those surgeries and set backs. But I just don't think the Giant's mishandled his medical issues. No doubt players feel pressure to fix things but he had the final say. I wish him all the best.

Just like pretty much every other aspect of this organization has shown unlimited displays of incompetence, the medical staff has been no different. Not only this current team of quacks but the team before it also. Some really horrific stories. Embarrassments to their profession. ...and that pre-season game where Lowry was left in to give up 10 or so runs was uncalled for when clearly he was injured. Trying to have him "pitch through a forearm cramp" I believe what was passed in the papers post game. Pretty shitty. Not the best pitcher on the team and after his tremendous showing early on he began to BB too many batters for my liking, but Noah always struck me as a cool down to earth guy. I enjoyed watching his curveball/change-up immensely. I'll miss the guy if in fact he is done in SF. Seeing his ex roommate Haren go on to big dollars and success must really suck. Hope he gets himself some of that in the future.

That seems to be the nature of the beast. None of them ever wants to be taken out of a game. I meant in terms of his medical diagnosis. There were several and the last one being that weird puncture of his rib cage after having the weird sheath surgery.... wait here is more detail. Unfortunately surgeons and doctors don't always have the answers in the right order. I completely understand his anger and frustration but they did want they knew and he allowed it . I hope he DOES come back and bite the Giants.

(I feel like Andy Rooney - "Ever wonder....?") Because a lot of the time I think we come to conclusions that may be based on not having the whole picture. For example, I can't imagine that a big-city sports franchise like the Giants can't buy a competent medical staff. I'm sure they can read MRIs (at least I hope). But if we're only given bits and pieces, we come to conclusions that might not be accurate. Do we have all the information we should have in order to draw accurate conclusions? Should the Giants be better about filtering out medical information? I'm often left feeling like I'm only speculating because they haven't given us a complete picture.

Posts: 4007 (11/05/09 9:03 AM) Member Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	For those that don't know......the current collective bargaining agreement allows the release of medical information only if it is expressly OK'd by the player. I am guessing in contentious circumstances like this, the player (or in this case his agent) would only authorize the release of information that shines a favorable light on the player. Anyone expecting to be able to interpret the medical condition of a player by what they read in the press, will usually not have nearly enough information to come to a conclusion based on fact.. At any time in history it would be a tough thing to diagnose a problem by reading the press. Since they instituted the new CBA it would be impossible. I must have missed the life threatening bloodclot information. I have only read that it was a circulation problem caused by a rib pressing on some blood vessels. As an aside......Noah Lowry made $7.25 million dollars the last 2 years for contributing zero to the team (not counting medical and rehab costs). I am sorry if I can't feel too sorry for him. If some doctor wants to misdiagnose an ailment of mine.......I will gladly accept the $7.25 million ;-)

And I'm pretty sure that what we're getting is what the agent wants known (not the player necessarily), so yeah, what we do get is skewed. So are you saying that the CBA prevents the organization from actually saying anything until the agent (player) okays it? That kind of sucks for the fans because no way are we ever going to get the full picture. And now that I know this, I'm going to take everything with a grain of salt. You're just a literal font of information, Hank.

And it really does make sense. So much of the time we come down hard on the medical staff when in reality we're getting a skewed picture. I don't know much about the Giants' medical staff........but with the money involved they HAVE to have the best medical care available. Anything other than that would be stupid. I don't know if anyone read my Spring Training Blog....but I posted proof that Noah Lowry has lied about his injury. I remember reporting one day that Lowry threw off flat ground before practice began with only a trainer, Bochy, Righetti and the bullpen catcher as witnesses (this area is behind a screen where you have to peek through to see whats happening, since the rest of the team was stretching and running the press was not there yet). When he finished, he left with the trainer and looked VERY dejected and upset. Bochy and Rags stayed on the field talking for a few minutes and also did not look happy. The Giants reported only that Lowry was progressing "normally" on his rehab. Lowry told the press (Hank Schulman from the Chronicle I believe) that he threw off the mound and everything went well. Clearly a lie from what I saw with my own two eyes. Again, we don't know unless we are privy to all the details (which will never happen). But clearly, this shows that Lowry was in at least denial, if not just plain lying to cover up the seriousness of his injury. Never trust a player when it comes to injuries........they will lie to you EVERY time. They want to play and they will take the option that predicts they get back in action the soonest EVERY time.
