Jason Bay or Roy Holliday. Just sign one of them for cripes sake.

I thought I read somewhere that Sabean is having discussions with all Giants free agents on their status, including Randy Winn. Um, if that conversation with
Winn was anything but "don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out" I'm going to freak out.

The Giants are expected to make a run at Jason Bay this winter.
The Red Sox and Mets, among others, are also expected to bid for Bay's services, but general manger Brian Sabean said he sees a "later-developing market" for free agents this winter. "We don't have a relative sense of urgency like last year, which will play in our favor," said Sabean. With one of the league's worst offenses, perhaps they should. Source: San Francisco Chronicle Juan Uribe plans to test the free agent market, according to Giants GM Brian Sabean. Uribe had a resurgent season in his first year with the Giants, hitting .289/.329/.495 in 398 at-bats. The 30-year old will seek a multi-year contract with guaranteed playing time, but the three straight poor seasons before 2009 will give GMs pause. If he's willing to sacrifice wins for playing time, he should have no trouble finding a suitor. Source: San Jose Mercury News According to his agent, Noah Lowry will be removed from the Giants' 40-man roster and become a free agent. It was a given that his $6.25 million option for 2010 wouldn't be picked up. Lowry has missed the last two seasons because of elbow/forearm issues that he believes the Giants misdiasgnosed. He was 14-8 with a 3.92 ERA in his last healthy season in 2007. Source: San Francisco Chronicle According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the Giants and Freddy Sanchez have agreed to a two-year, $12 million contract. It's better than picking up his $8.1 million option for 2009. Sanchez wasn't a great bet on a multiyear deal, considering that he's turning 32 this winter and second basemen tend to decline quickly in their early 30s, but this probably won't turn into an Edgar Renteria-style disaster, either. If Sanchez is healthy, he'll be reasonably productive. If not, then the Giants will have alternatives. |

Updated 2010 FA class is here.
Benji Molina = Type A. Someone please sign him. Noah Lowry on the list. Expect him to sign a minor league deal with SF, ya? Wouldn't mind a look a Bobby Crosby on the cheap. Still think he may have some talent ready to be exposed upon change of scenery. Too bad we got 1/2 a SS already gobbling down fat chunks of payroll. Chone Figgins should definitely be inquired on. Carl Crawford 10mill option must be picked up I assume. I'd look at Xavier Nady's price tag also. Not really an answer but for this squad at least it's something in the way of power. Bring the Golden Bear home. Lots of nastiness on that list I would not be surprised Sabean looks at. I would refrain from calling out names as the thought scare the sh*ts outta me. |

As long as they let the flash in the pan Uribe walk, I'm okay.
Have to say, bringing back Lowry on a minor league contract seems to be a no brainer, I just wonder how much his agent burned his bridges. A refuse from a silver phial

I'd like to say J.U. is definitely a goner but I don't believe that.
He is exactly a Sabean type target player. If he's back with a starting job I would not be shocked. Really, nothing could shock me anymore I don't think. |

Oh, and a bidding war vs Boston for Jason Bay? Really?
Lets not... |

Giants appoint Hensley Meulens as hitting coach Hensley "Bam Bam" Meulens was elevated to hitting coach today, replacing Carney Lansford. Meulens was the hitting coach at Triple-A Fresno this past season - his first in the organization. This will be his first assignment on a major league coaching staff. |

There you go!
Bam Bam in, Lansford out. World Series, here we come. Turning around Bowker and Velez?? Bowker = .620 OPS 60 OPS+ Velez = .708 OPS 84 OPS+ Yes. Velez went from godawful (.438 OPS) to average when he returned (.747 OPS), but a .308 OBP from your leadoff hitter isn't something to write home about......

I remember being obsessed with obtaining the Hensley Meulens Rated Rookie. I threw everything in my arsenal at my trade table adversary for weeks. Don't
remember the outcome now but I'm sure Beckett has it coming in at around -0 .05cents.
Another overhyped Yankee farmhand flop. As a hitting coach? Who knows... A smart team would have gone outside the system to shake things up dramatically as possible. Oh Wells. Good luck Hensley. You definitely got your hand full. |

A guy named Bam Bam has to be an improvement for this: "The Giants averaged the fewest pitches per plate appearance in the majors and also ranked last in
walks and on-base percentage." Don't you think?

More from Baggarly:
Teams like the Chicago Cubs and Texas Rangers have interviewed a parade of potential hitting coaches this month. But Giants Manager Bruce Bochy said he did not speak to any other candidates before he and GM Brian Sabean elevated Triple-A hitting coach Hensley Meulens to the major league job Monday. |

"Any time you can go inside your organization, and we really felt comfortable with Hensley, that's the way to go," Bochy said on a conference call. "We didn't want to open this to the outside with our feeling that Hensley was certainly qualified and deserves this promotion. That sends a good message to all those guys working their tails off down there." Amazing. Boy. Bochy really showing his appreciation for that extension. Bam Bam "leads" the Grizzlies to a 6 spot out of 16 PCL teams and earns an unquestioned promotion to the Bigs?? How does he deserve it?? Oh yeah. Career .288 OBP. Will fit nicely sitting next to career .296 OBP performer Shawon Dunston.... And BS gives lip service to plate discipline??

From CSNBA:
Two of the Grizzlies' batters placed in the top 10 for highest batting avg. in the PCL with John Bowker leading the league with a .342 clip and Jesus Guzman placing fifth with a .321 mark. After the minor league season concluded, he joined the Giants and worked as an assistant during September. I want to be positive about this, although the Giants didn't have a good September when they really needed it. I dunno - maybe they liked what they saw when he was up here. But it does sound like they weren't seriously thinking about anybody else and probably had their minds made up long before the season ended. I still think hitting can't get much worse than last season... |

Way back when, Sabien was the guy who gave Bam Bam his highly touted reputation when he was the big Yankees scout. Also, Bam Bam only spent one year in the Giants organization and Bochy insinuated that he was a long timer. More Bullshit. Nepotism in positions that affect whether or not my team gets a World Series ring just piss me off to no end.

If it really is nepotism. Let's say Bam Bam can pull these hitters' heads out of their asses and we end up with an offense worthy of our pitching
staff. Will we then want to "own" Bam Bam as one of "ours" who came up through the organization? (Be honest...)
