He obviously doesn't have closer stuff. Last night was a perfect example of this, and so was that saturday game at Milwaukee a few weeks ago. He'd get to many 0-2 counts but couldn't seal the deal. He can't consistently close out batters, and thus he shouldn't be a closer.
My non-Giants fans friends didn't get it until I explained it like this: Brian Wilson is not the worst closer in MLB. He's the worst closer with the most secure job. Why isn't there EVER talk about a new closer? With any other team, all of these heart attacks and blown saves would get rumblings going (even for teams that don't have great bullpens), but not here. Why? It can't just be "well, there isn't anyone else." I don't buy that.
This is just extremely frustrating and I can just see it now: The Giants continue their miracle run into the playoffs and ride the starting pitching all the way to the World Series. But in the World Series the Giants need a closer to close out tight games 1-4, and Brian Wilson brings his subpar stuff and our boys get swept...again. Considering that this team could get into the playoffs and do damage, this is something that needs to be addressed, IMHO.
