Johnson injured himself Sunday during an abbreviated 3 2/3-inning stint against the Astros. The 303-game winner is 8-6 with a 4.81 ERA in 17 starts this year. Frandsen's arrival restores San Francisco's balance between pitchers and position players, since the team was one short in the latter group. This is Frandsen's third stint of the season with the Giants. He's hitting .071 in nine games with them."

He already has 8 wins. IMO he had become an integral part of the 1-2-3 juggernaut of the Giant pitching staff. Johnson's injury is quite a blow because of his presence. He seems to have such a positive effect on a young pitching staff. Let's hope that the shoulder strain is minor and Johnson can bounce back. The Giants think he can return in two to three weeks after rest and a strengthening program. Jonathan Sanchez is available in the bullpen tonight, but he will step into Johnsons rotation slot, Bochy said. Johnson felt something in his biceps during a BP swing a couple days ago. Sure, age becomes a factor, Bochy said. I cant tell you when he will be ready. Bochy said Johnson is very disappointed. The Giants put him on the 15-day DL and called up Kevin Frandsen. He was on pace to win 15 games for us, Bochy said."

Other articles say Sanchez will take his spot. Ughhh. Maybe Bumgartner was hopeful thinking, but come on if we want to hold onto the wild card and try to catch the Dodgers, we can't be giving Sanchez more starts, even with injuries. Why can't we convince Glavine to come here for the rest of the year? How about PEDRO MARTINEZ???

Ok, maybe not good but I am far from bummed out over it. Sanchez gets a shot at building momentum going into the deadline. He's looked good his last few outings. The kick in the ass could of helped. Not only that Johnson rests the other part of his creaky 45year old body. A rested RJ is a good thing as the summer grind is on the horizon. And if Johnson stays hurt cause, ya know, he is old and it's bound to happen again, and Sanchez gets moved or implodes. Well, we are just one step closer to seeing what we've been waiting for as the future studs begin to trickle in slowly. "The Dream"
