I guess everyone has given up on Torcato.
All the 25 man rosters that I've seen proposed, dont include him. I guess it says something that the giants signed 3 RFs (Mohr, Hammonds, and Tucker). And he doesnt seem to have a position (his defensive play hasnt been so great I guess).
I dont disagree with writing him off. He only hit something like .280 at Fresno last year if I remember right. With limited power. And his defense has apparently not been so stellar.
It IS disappointing tho, that 2 years ago he was our best (or at least earliest) up and coming position prospect. According to these boards anyway.
What does the Torcato story tell us? It says that our minor leagues are attrociously devoid of talented position players. Of course, we already knew that. But even our limited prospects dont seem to pan out (if Torcato is any indication).
Maybe Linden will turn out better. Maybe Schierholtz and company will turn out better. Maybe we wont miss the 1st round pick that we allegedly intentionally gave up this off-season.
A lot of maybe's. This doesn't look good to me.
Back to Torcato. Does he have ANY future with us? I guess maybe we could try to trade him to AL where he can be a DH. I'd guess that no one will trade for an UNproven hitter to be a DH. I'd guess that we'll eventually release Torcato.
Just my opinion.
