I should explain. This is me being bored and wanting to throw out one of my "crazy" ideas. ESPN reports that the Mets are trying to get Soriano from the Rangers. They apparently wanted Reyes which is a no go but ESPN believes the Rangers would make the trade for Kazmir. So my question would be could the Giants jump in with a minor league pitcher and maybe Mohr to get Soriano. Soriano it is suggested could play OF. He is scheduled to make under 6 million this year. And from the Maddux negotiations the Giants could do it. What does everyone think. Also - about the time Soriano would be ready to sign a long term, big money deal - Barry will be ready to retire.

Guru:

I see the attraction, but keep one thing in mind -- Alfonzo Soriano was traded for the best overall player in baseball. Soriano has had two straight 35-35 seasons. Dustan Mohr (whom we acquired for a minor, minor leaguer) and a minor league pitcher ain't gonna do it. The Rangers are sitting on one of the best players in the game, so they deserve to ask for the moon (A.J., Jerome, Merkin, Cain for beginners). I just don't think our modest farm system (I'm being very kind) and our small amount of young major league talent is going to be enough to outbid the other 28 teams. And to top it off, Sabean isn't interested in hurting the team in other areas in order to fill one position. He made that pretty clear this winter.
