although Alfonso Soriano is a really good player, even the Mets don't need him - they're covered up the middle with Matsui, Reyes and the newly signed Mike Cameron at CF....

in fact depending on how the pitching staff does, i would think that the Mets could be the surprise team out of the NL East (they're probably going to have a healthy Piazza and Floyd this season and they've finally gotten rid of Mo, while giving Jason Phillips some valuable playing time), because it doesn't look like the Braves will repeat their string of division championships.....

therefore using that logic, i would think that IF the Giants really wanted Soriano, they could make the deal IF they were willing to give up somebody like Merkin Valdez, although i'm not convinced that the Rangers would want to trade him anyway.... i really think this is just a bunch of baseless rumors perpetuated by the ESPN pay site......
