yup - a southpaw throwing 98 mph is very impressive indeed - and from reports, it looks like Felix Diaz is in the mix for the 5th spot in the Chicago White Sox rotation this season.

Bleacher:

It is, but if we'd asked Sabean why he let him go, he would've given the same reason as Diaz -- that he projected as a reliever because of durability questions.

As for Diaz with the Sox -- good luck. I'm of the opinion that if you're making a major league rotation you should be reasonably expected to make 32 starts and last six innings a year. If you're not ready to do that, then you should be pitching at a lower level. Diaz has barely cracked 100 innings in a season.

i'm still puzzled by the fact that Torrealba is still on the team with Alberto Castillo signed for the 2004 season - there must have been a deal to trade Torrealba that fell through... then again, from all reports, the Giants were trying to get AJ at the trading deadline in 2003 - what would they have done with 3 catchers then?

I think Castillo is insurance. If he doesn't make the team, he'll be talked into going to AAA (I think it would have to come to that). Sabean has already intimated they're going with seven relievers, so that definitely doesn't leave room for three catchers, not that they've would've carried that much even with eleven pitchers.
