There is one other way to get around that and still be successful.

In the course of most games, there is usually at least one crucial point where if you get a key hit, you win the game, or if you get a key out, you win the game.

If you can have your pitching and the defense by the younger players keep you in the game....a smart manager will be able to recognize when that crucial point in the game is coming, and if he has assembled his roster correctly, he'll have a couple of smart, experienced, veteran hitters sitting on the bench next to him.

If we're not going to have any big boppers in the outfield, then we sure as heck should have some accomplished pinch hitters sitting on the bench waiting to get those key at-bats in the game when we accidentally get a couple of runners on base. I don't mind playing the young guys, but they sure could use a couple of Burrell-type guys to come off the bench and help them out.
