Hisanori Takahashi had a jeckyl and hyde first season in the majors. He got blasted as a starter but turned his season around with his time coming out of the bullpen when the Mets were out of the race.... Another minus is that the pitching poor Mets released him....

I didn't see him pitch - I play the opposite game that ESPN does : I *ignore* those damn east coast teams entirely (unless they are playing the Giants, of course). A quick look at his stats indicates that he started the season as a relief pitcher (often long relief) and became a starter in late May, June and July, moving back into the pen in August. He often (not always) pitched like Wellemeyer as a starter - that does worry me. He'd prob be best as a reliever, for LESS than $3M.

The Mets didn't "release" him per-se (as in "you aren't good enough for us, we want nothing to do with you, go away so we don't have to pay you league minimum"). His contract specified that he would be a FA if he and the Mets couldn't agree on a contract within X days after the end of the world series. They didn't agree on salary.
