i finally remembered that the problem with the iMic was the delay between the input source and the computer input - i think the reason is that the iMic is purely an input device - no amp or anything - therefore everything is done in software which causes the delay....

from what i understand - the Powerwave has a built-in amp and advertises a "ThePowerWave even has a switch through which it can provide zero-latency sound recording. This lets you overdub multitrack recordings while you're playing them back, a powerful feature not found in other low-cost sound devices."

i think this allows you to add one track to your music mixes - anything more and you would need something like one of the USB or Firewire offerings from M-Audio.

the funny thing is that currently no G5 can accept any of the current audio cards that are available that work with the Pro Tools suite. The reason is that the G5 supports PCI-X cards whereas the old G4s supported the PCI 3.3 volt interface. Of course support is right around the block..... of course the new G5 has an optical in and out jacks so cards may not be necessary...
