along with the fact that the recent multi-billion dollar bond that the California voters approved at the beginning of the month was for construction ONLY....

Y'know, the last time a bond like this hit the ballot was also the last time I gave a petitioner any of my time. When they were originally collecting signatures for the one that went on the ballot in 2000 (is this the same bond issue?), I read it over, asked her a few questions which she didn't know the answer to, and refused to sign because of the asininity of assuming too few BUILDINGS is what's wrong with our schools. The petitioner flipped her lid, as she got paid by the signature and the five minutes I spent holding her clipboard cost her the money she could've gotten from idiots who go, "School funding? I'm in favor of that!" and sign whatever's put in their face.

So f--- that, and f--- that.

P.S. On a more sinister level, a recall of a district supervisor in Santa Barbara county went through the same way, where petitioners said, "Sign a petition for a clean water bill! Sign here [flip paper over] and here." The top page was the clean water bill, the second page was the recall petition. And a number--at least 8,000(!!!)--people DIDN'T READ BEFORE THEY SIGNED.

I know it was at least 8,000, because that's the differential between the number of people who signed the petition for the recall and the number of people who actually voted in favor of it when it came up.

Ugh.
