For one thing, it just isn't sports that are being cut. 400 pink slips are also going out.

I don't know how much sports programs cost, but I'm sure there are a lot of hidden costs like insurance and maintenance. Remember, I'm a middle school teacher so I don't see the high school sports programs up close. But I do think they're essential, especially in places like West Contra Costa for the reasons I wrote in the previous post.

As for where the money goes, I can only speak from my point of view here. Top-heavy administration is something that gets to me. There are a lot of high-paid people out there making decisions that undermine the low-paid classroom teachers' teaching style and abilities.

.... and I would get into the standardized testing (and all the time and money spent on them), but I have a headache and it will only get worse if I do. This probably isn't the forum for it, anyway.
