Hard to beleive...

I guess Beane needed more in the way of statistical analysis before proclaiming something to the effect "If the Dodgers go with Depodesta they'll have their GM for a long time". ;)

But seriously... as much fun as it was to poke fun at Depo for the questionable moves he made, and as little as he actually had to do with stockpiling all the upper-minors talent they have... I think this is beyond stupid. It sure looked like he had a long-term vision and they didn't give him half a chance to see it through. The fact that he didn't panic this season and make moves to deal a ton of prospects for immediate help seemed to confirm that.

When you look at the win-now/PR-friendly names now on the Dodgers managing list (guys like Wotus/Lovello are off the list and Valentine/Hersheiser are on) and you look at the fact that the Dodgers don't seem eager to add much payroll... I wouldn't be at all surprised to see some (if not a lot) of that talent shipped elsewhere to patch up the holes.

Now it looks like the Dodgers may hire a manager without a GM (which is on Page 1 of the book "How Not To Run The Front Office Of A Professional Sports Franchise"), and teams like Tampa Bay (who has a GM opening and a ton of young talent) should be falling over themselves to get Depodesta in there. I think he'd be a heck of a lot better off in a lower pressure situation where he's given time to define a long-term strategy and see it through.
