The Los Angeles Dodgers are interested in talking to Theo Epstein about their vacant GM job, and the team has made a move to talk to him about the position, according to a Los Angeles Times report.

Epstein said Wednesday that another team has contacted him through an intermediary. And The Times reported through unidentified sources, said it was the Dodgers.

"If we get to next week, that'd be a more appropriate time for me to listen to what other teams have to say," Epstein said.

Until then, the 31-year-old, who stepped down as the Red Sox's GM Monday, said he plans to hang around his old Boston job "to help with the transition."

The Times says the Dodgers had hoped to have a new GM in place by Monday, when the general managers' meetings begin in Palm Springs, Calif. But the only way they could have a new hire in place is to essentially abandon Epstein.

The Dodgers are also interested in former Texas Rangers general manager John Hart to fill the general manager's position, the Dallas Morning News reported on its Web site Thursday.
