This I'll give you, of course losing Jeff Kent didn't make Alou's job any easier.

I wouldn't give him even this point BP. Remember the Giants replaced 3 of 8 starting position players in 2003 (including Kent) AND it was the first year Nen was not available AND the year they traded Russ Ortiz for Damien Moss.

Many many board members were predicting ruin and destruction for the 2004 Giants because they had "gutted" the World Series team in the off season. All they did was lead wire-to-wire and win 100 games.

To say Felipe Alou inherited a set team in 2003 just is not even CLOSE to accurate.

EDIT: Actually I just checked my facts.....and I was wrong. They replaced FOUR of 8 starters in 2003. Kent, Bell, Lofton and Saunders.....not a scrub in the lot. And I forgot about Livan Hernandez also.....not much of a loss at the time......but still proof Felipe did not inherit ANYWHERE NEAR a set team.

2003 was, infact, the biggest team turnover of the Sabean era.
