Matt Cain has got to be considered a complete untouchable on this team - above everyone else except Lowry. Although i still preach patience, he's got the potential to be something real special and there are more question marks on the 2006 pitching rotation than the everyday lineup to mess with for a Ryan Howard. Now if the Jason Schmidt deal was real, then it'd be a big hmmmmm.....

For me the dismal 1st half pitching performance the Giants trotted out to start the season is still fresh in my memory. Now that the Giants have seemed to turn the corner with some young guys I can't imagine why Sabean would want to turn away from that by trading perhaps the best starting pitching prospect to come down the pike in 15+ years. With Tomko likely/hopefully gone from the Giants in 2006 the Giants, short of and including a free agent signee, still should have starting pitching as a #1 priority in building next year's team. Cain should figure prominantly in those plans.

Why would the Phils want to trade Ryan Howard anyway?
